One trip a year. Make it count.*

Hi, we're Marcel and Kathleen

We're a married couple with regular corporate jobs and a limited number of vacation days, just like most of the people reading this. We can't take off for months at a time. What we can do is take one big trip a year and make it count. This blog is where we share exactly how.

Every route on this site is one we travelled ourselves. Every hotel is one we slept in, every ferry one we sat on, every restaurant one we ate at. And we pay for all of it ourselves. No press trips, no sponsored stays, no free hotels in exchange for a good review. That independence is the whole point. It's what lets us tell you when something wasn't worth it.

How it started

It started on Bali in 2016. I (Marcel) spent four months there for a semester abroad, and somewhere between the rice terraces and the first solo scooter rides across the island, I fell for Southeast Asia. Not the postcard version, the real one: how things actually work on the ground, the pace of the place, the small logistics that make a trip run smoothly or fall apart.

Kathleen caught the bug soon after. These days we travel as a team, though we've fallen into a clear split. I plan. Kathleen trusts that the plan will be good, and she's never once had to organise a single part of a trip. She just shows up, and it works. That's not her being lazy. It's a system that took years to earn her trust.

The part that makes this blog useful

Time for a confession: I'm not a spontaneous traveller. Not even a little. I need everything mapped out before we go, the route, the timing, the backup plan for when a ferry doesn't show. For a long time I thought of that as a quirk to apologise for.

Then it clicked that it's the whole reason these guides are worth reading. I actually love the planning. I'll spend evenings working out the smartest order to hit the islands, comparing ferry operators, picking the hotel with the right location instead of just the best photos. Sorting out the problems before they happen is the part I enjoy most, even if some people find it exhausting.

So here's the deal we're offering you: we already did the hard part. The weeks of research, the trial and error, the mistakes we made so you don't have to. You get the finished route, tested by two people who care about getting it right.

What we care about

We plan trips the way we'd want one planned for us. That means routes you can actually follow step by step, real prices, and straight opinions, including the parts that didn't live up to the hype. It means telling you when the expensive tour was worth it and when the cheaper one was just as good. And it means our own photos, drone and underwater shots included, so you see the real place instead of a stock image.

We're not trying to be full-time nomads or sell you a dream. We're two people with jobs, one big trip a year, and a real love for making that trip the best it can be. If that sounds like you, you're in the right place.

Thanks for being here. Now go plan something good.
